Services
The Neuropsychology Center of Utah (NPCU) provides comprehensive neuropsychological and psychological evaluations to children, adolescents and adults presenting with various brain based disorders, including ADHD, Autism, depression, anxiety, traumatic brain injury, dementia, PTSD and other developmental disabilities.
What is a Neuropsychological Evaluation (NPE)
An NPE assesses the patient’s cognitive, motor, behavioral, emotional, language and executive functioning skills. An NPE is a very extensive assessment procedure used to assess a patient’s individual strengths and current difficulties. This is done by having the patient complete of number of activities including tasks on an iPad, computer based tests, question and answering procedures and the patient completing paperwork. We never conduct an NPE to find out “what is wrong” with our patients. This comprehensive evaluation is designed to assess the individual needs of each patient so we can than provide a comprehensive and effective treatment plan.
How Long Does an NPE Take
Undergoing a Neuropsychological Evaluation can be intimidating. Depending on a patient’s age, an NPE can take anywhere from 2 to 10 hours of time to complete. This evaluation at times is broken up into separate appointments. We encourage patients to come rested and have a good breakfast the day of their assessment. During the assessment, patients will have numerous breaks and an extended lunch break. When completing an NPE, our goal is to make each patient feel comfortable. We simply want each patient to try their best when completing this evaluation.
Additional Services
At NPCU, we do more than just assessment. We also provide comprehensive treatment services such as cognitive behavioral therapy, parent training, educational consultation and social skills training. Psychological disorders are manageable. We work directly with our patients and their loved ones to identify all the tools and resources needed to treat the patient’s condition and to improve their quality of life. We have learned over the years that behavioral disorders are best treated through a proactive, evidence-based method. The action plan we create for our patients will help them successfully manage their disorder because it’s personalized to meet their specific needs and challenges.
